The Maharashtra government introduced the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) to provide free access to quality medical care for all ration cardholders in the state. Understanding Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY):

MJPJAY was launched by the Maharashtra state government with the objective of providing free and quality medical care to low-income families. The scheme covers free medical care, particularly specialized services that require hospitalization for consultations, surgeries, and therapies through a network of identified healthcare providers. Initially known as Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana (RGJAY), it offers coverage for all medical expenses during hospitalization, with a sum insured amount of Rs.1,50,000 per family per year. This coverage can be availed by an individual or the entire family through cashless hospitalization.

Covered Services Under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana:

MJPJAY provides coverage for approximately 971 therapies, surgeries, and procedures, along with 121 follow-up packages in 30 specialized categories. These categories encompass various medical fields, such as orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ENT surgery, gynecology and obstetrics surgery, cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery, ophthalmology surgery, pediatric surgery, radiation surgery, plastic surgery, and more. Some procedures are specifically reserved for government empaneled hospitals or government medical colleges. The scheme covers post-hospitalization expenses, including consultation and medicines, for up to 10 days from the date of discharge.

What Is Not Covered:

While MJPJAY provides comprehensive medical coverage, certain planned procedures, such as vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and discectomy, are performed only at government empaneled hospitals or government medical colleges.
